Alpine Fuchsia Socks

Alpine lace stockings with traditional patterns and calf shaping.

Alpine Fuchsia Socks are traditional Alpine stockings. These knee-height socks are knit toe-up and feature a traditional Alpine stitch pattern called Fuchsienblüte (Fuchsia blossom) which extends down the leg. The calf is shaped like traditional Austrian stockings featuring little horseshoe elements (called Hufeisen in Austria).

One size, please go up/down on needle size to adjust leg and foot circumference. Length of foot, leg and calf position are adjustable.

The lace pattern is quite stretchy, so if you’ve got small feet/ankles/legs you might want to use a smaller needle size (maybe size 0 / 2mm).

You can use every fingering weight yarn for this pattern, although solid or semisolid colors show the pattern best. Yarns in rather busy colors or self-striped yarns might not be the best choice.

Yarns suggested: Lana Grossa Meilenweit 50 Seta/Cashmere
Yarn weight: Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi)
Gauge: 28 stitches and 40 rows = 4 inches in stockinette
Needle size: US 1½ – 2.5 mm
Yardage: 400 – 470 yards (366 – 430 m)
Sizes available: one size (adjustable)
Ankle length modifications

The pattern tells you to start the calf section after 9cm or as soon as the ankle is long enough to cover your leg up to the start of your calf increase. Please make sure to work the leg section until you reach that point to make sure your socks will be truly kneeheights.
